 The Flying Animal

There
is an animal that can fly,
but it’s not bird.

Can
you guess what that animal is?

A
bat

    Bats are mammal animals; that is, they drink their mother’s
milk when they are young,
just like puppies and kittens. A mother bat takes very good care of its baby.
She would never leave her baby. A mother bat would carry her baby with her
while searching for food.

       Bats are not bird. A bat does not have
feathers or a bird’s bill,
but it has a mouth with tiny sharp teeth and a nose. A bat’s body is rather
like that of a mouth; that is, it
is furry. So when you take a close look at it,you will see that it is more or less like a mouse
that can fly.

      Now let’s talk about bat’s wings. They
are really not wings. But they are long fingers joined together by thin skin
called membrane. These unusual wings help them to fly.

      Although bats live in pitch dark places,they can fly,perfectly.Just how can
they do that? By sending out sounds.When bats fly,they send out sounds that only bats can hear.And
if there is something in front of them blocking their way,these sounds would bounce back.When the bats hear
the echoes of those sounds,
they will knoww that there is something in their way.

    Different kinds of bats feed on different
things. Vampire bats suck other animal’s blood as food.People don’t like
vampire bats because they have germs that can be dangerous to humans.But most
kinds of bats are just harmless.They eat flower pollen ,small flsh,and insect.This is good for humans because insect-eating
bats help humans get rid of insects that can destroy their crops and can
dangerous to their health.If you see a bats ,there is a good chance you would see it zagging,trying to catch
mosquitoes.

         Most bats are brown,but there are other colors as well,such as blackish,grayish green,gray,orange,greenish
white,red and yellowish.Bats
live in dark places and hang themselves upside down.When winter comes,bats would
hibernate.Nothern bats would fly away to warmer places in winter. But that may
not be necessary for vampire bats, because
they already live in hot forests.
